Main Threats

The short answer to, what threatens snow leopards? Is: humans. Hunting, habitat loss, declines in natural prey species, and retaliatory killings are the main threats to this animal, all threats posed by humans. Climate change is also a big factor, impacts of a warming climate may lead to a loss of up to 30% of the snow leopard habitat in the just the Himalayas. The WWF is helping by working with communities in the Eastern Himalayas to monitor snow leopards and lessen the retaliatory killing of them by installing snow predator proof ways to keep lives stock.
